6:30 – 8:45 p.m.
Meeting Room A/B

Kinshasa is the home of Central Africa’s one and only symphony orchestra. It is also the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the third largest city in Africa. Nearly 10 million people live there and are among the poorest on this planet. The musicians of Kinshasa Symphony have survived many crises and a war, but the music and hopes for a better future keep them going.

Kinshasa Symphony is an award-winning documentary film that shows how people living in one of the most chaotic cities in the world have managed to forge one of the most complex systems of human cooperation ever invented: a symphony orchestra. It is a film about the Congo, about the people of Kinshasa, and about music.

The movie, created by German filmmakers Claus Wischmann and Martin Baer in 2010, is in French with English subtitles.

This event is sponsored by the Princeton-based music business Vocal Reach, who is working to bring people together to consider how to shift from violence into a more joyful existence together and in doing that, grow in care for the Congolese people through music.

Vocal Reach will provide some live vocal music at this event!
