Vid Raturi, Operanauts’ Board of Trustees member and graduate student in the Neuroscience program at Tulane University, recently trained to manage the logistics of touring with a live opera.

In early March, 2021 The Phyllis M. Taylor Center for Social Innovation and Design Thinking honored Raturi with the Changemaker Catalyst Award, a grant awarded to a student interested in pursuing careers related to Social Innovation, Social Entrepreneurship, Design Thinking, and Changemaking. Later in the month, Raturi used her award to attend Beth Morrison Projects’ Intensive Training on Touring, a rigorous workshop that covers the logistics of going on tour with a live opera, such as pitching, contracting, a production’s advance marketing, and travel logistics.

“The most challenging part of the training was not having a background in production,” Raturi said.

According to Raturi, this logistical training lays the foundation for the inspiring relationships that opera can foster.

“Music is a great way to bring people together and touring makes it possible to connect communities in geographically different locales,” Raturi said.

In the future, Raturi said she hopes to help Operanauts’ creative team arrange an opera tour pitch, create relationships with opera presenters, and facilitate the logistics of touring both in the United States and abroad.
